How many ways can you think of to welcome a customer into your store? Hello? How can I help you? What can we do for you today? What brings you in today?

You could make a list a mile long of these lame ways to welcome a customer. How do you think this affects your customers opinion of you? Odds are, your customer has been to multiple places and dealt with multiple salespeople before they got to you. If you sound the same and act the same, they will assume that you are the same.

As the old saying goes, you only have one chance at a good 1st impression.

If you want to differentiate yourself from your competitors, try sounding different. Try engaging your customer in a way that sets you apart. Try giving them a sincere compliment from the beginning.

If you like their car, tell them. If you think their kid is cute, tell them. If you see anything about them that stands out, TELL THEM!

A sincere compliment will give you an opportunity to connect with your customer on a personal level allowing you to serve them better and sell them a product that will best fit their needs.
